Meet Dr Kris: Your Cambridge Volume Restoration Doctor

BSc (Hons) MBBS PgDip MSc RCPathME MRSB MIoL MIHSCM PVRA

Restoring facial volume well depends on understanding why it was lost in the first place. Dr Kris brings more than 12 years of clinical experience and a detailed knowledge of facial ageing to every volume loss treatment at Kriniko Medical Aesthetics, rebuilding support where your face needs it rather than simply filling lines.

  • Advanced aesthetic training completed in London, with ongoing professional development in injectable techniques, regenerative medicine and complication management.
  • A medical understanding of how fat pads, bone, ligaments and collagen change with age, so each treatment targets the true cause of hollowing and sagging.
  • Every patient has a face-to-face medical consultation with Dr Kris before treatment, and a doctor is present throughout your appointment.

The Kriniko Difference

Restored, Never Overfilled

The aim of volume restoration is to look like a well-rested version of yourself, not a different person. Dr Kris replaces only what time has taken away, layering treatments carefully so your face looks fresher, softer and naturally supported.

Whole-face assessment

Your face is assessed at rest and in movement, from the front and in profile, to map exactly where volume has been lost and how it affects your overall appearance.

Layered, gradual restoration

Instant structural support from filler can be paired with collagen-building treatments that work over months, giving results that build naturally and last longer.

Complete skin strategy

Volume is only part of the picture. Dr Kris can combine restoration with anti-wrinkle injections, polynucleotides or medical-grade skincare for healthier, firmer skin.

Volumising Dermal Fillers

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers give immediate structural support where volume has been lost. Placed deep in the cheeks, they restore mid-face lift and soften nose-to-mouth lines; in the temples, they smooth a hollowed, gaunt look; and in the tear trough, they reduce the shadows that make you look tired.

Dr Kris uses firmer, lifting gels for structural areas and softer gels for delicate zones, and results are visible straight away. Hyaluronic acid fillers are also reversible, giving you added reassurance.

Collagen Stimulators

Collagen stimulators such as Sculptra and AesPlla use poly-L-lactic acid to prompt your skin to produce new collagen. Rather than adding volume instantly, they gradually restore lost fullness and firmness across the whole face over a course of treatments.

This makes them ideal for widespread, age-related volume loss or a gaunt look after weight loss. Results develop naturally over two to three months, so friends notice you look well rather than "done", and can last for two years or more.

Skin Boosters & Regenerative Treatments

Volume loss is not only deep in the face; the skin itself becomes thinner, drier and less elastic with age. Skin boosters such as Profhilo, and regenerative treatments such as polynucleotides, hydrate and strengthen the skin from within.

Used alone for early volume loss or alongside fillers and collagen stimulators, they improve firmness, bounce and crepey texture, helping your results look smoother, healthier and more radiant.

Your Treatment Journey

What to expect, step by step

Knowing what happens before, during and after your volume loss treatment helps you feel at ease and set realistic expectations.

01

Medical consultation

Dr Kris reviews your medical history, assesses where and why volume has been lost, and talks through your goals. You'll receive a clear, personalised plan and time to consider it before going ahead.

02

Your treatment

Numbing cream is applied for comfort, and treatment is delivered with a fine needle or cannula. Most appointments take 30–60 minutes, and some plans involve a short course of sessions.

03

Aftercare & review

Mild swelling or bruising may last a few days. Avoid exercise, alcohol, heat and pressure on the area for 24–48 hours. Your review appointment allows Dr Kris to assess progress and fine-tune your plan.

Why does the face lose volume?
Facial volume loss is a natural part of ageing that usually begins in our thirties. The deep fat pads that cushion the cheeks, temples and under-eyes shrink and slip downwards, the bones of the face gradually lose density, and the skin produces less collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. Together, these changes cause hollowing, flattening of the cheeks, deeper folds and sagging around the jawline. Weight loss, genetics, sun exposure, smoking and stress can all speed this process up. Volume loss treatments work by replacing structural support with hyaluronic acid fillers, stimulating your body to rebuild its own collagen with poly-L-lactic acid, and improving skin quality with skin boosters and regenerative treatments. Suitability is always confirmed at your medical consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Volume Loss Treatment Questions, Answered

What is the best treatment for facial volume loss?
There is no single best treatment, because volume loss affects each face differently. Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers give immediate support in specific areas such as the cheeks, temples and under-eyes, collagen stimulators like Sculptra gradually restore volume across the whole face, and skin boosters improve thinning skin. Many patients get the most natural results from a combination, and Dr Kris will recommend the right plan after assessing your face.
How long do volume loss treatments last?
Results vary by treatment. Cheek and temple fillers typically last 12 to 18 months, under-eye fillers can last 9 to 12 months or longer, and collagen stimulators can last two years or more once a course is complete. Skin boosters usually need maintenance every 6 to 12 months. Dr Kris will suggest a maintenance plan to keep your results looking fresh.
Can volume loss be treated without surgery?
Yes. For most people, injectable treatments can restore lost volume and give a subtle lift without surgery, general anaesthetic or significant downtime. Very advanced skin laxity may need a surgical opinion, and Dr Kris will always be honest about what non-surgical treatment can realistically achieve for you.
Can you treat a gaunt face after weight loss?
Yes. Significant weight loss, including weight loss with GLP-1 medications, can leave the face looking hollow or older. A combination of volumising fillers for structure and collagen stimulators for gradual, widespread restoration is often very effective. Treatment is usually best planned once your weight has stabilised.
Does volume loss treatment hurt?
Most patients find treatment very comfortable. Numbing cream is applied beforehand, and many fillers contain a local anaesthetic. You may feel some pressure or a brief sting, and Dr Kris often uses a blunt-tipped cannula to improve comfort and reduce bruising.
What are the side effects of volume loss treatments?
Common side effects include swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising at the treatment site, which usually settle within a few days to a week. Collagen stimulators can occasionally cause small lumps, which is why careful technique and following aftercare matter. Rarer but serious complications can occur with any injectable, so Dr Kris explains all risks fully at consultation and the clinic is fully prepared to manage them.
Who is not suitable for volume loss treatments?
Treatments are only offered to adults aged 18 and over. They aren't suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, where there is active infection in the area, or for people with certain autoimmune conditions or allergies to product ingredients. Some medications may also affect suitability, so your full medical history is reviewed before any treatment is offered.
