Meet Dr Kris: Your Cambridge PRP Doctor

BSc (Hons) MBBS PgDip MSc RCPathME MRSB MIoL MIHSCM PVRA

PRP begins with a medical procedure: taking your blood, preparing it correctly and injecting it into the right layer of skin. Dr Kris brings more than 12 years of clinical experience to every stage, so your treatment is carried out to the same standard you would expect in any medical setting.

  • Your blood is drawn, spun and injected by a doctor within the same appointment, in a single-use, closed sterile system.
  • A medical understanding of skin structure and healing, so plasma is placed at the depth where it can stimulate repair most effectively.
  • Every patient has a face-to-face medical consultation with Dr Kris, including a review of your medical history, medication and suitability for PRP.

Concerns PRP Skin Rejuvenation Can Treat

PRP suits skin that looks tired, dull or crepey rather than skin that has lost volume. If you want to improve quality and texture without adding filler, it may be the right choice.

Why Cambridge Trusts Dr Kris

Medical Standards From Draw to Injection

12+ years of clinical practice, with both medical and surgical qualifications
  • PRP is only as good as its preparation. Your blood is spun in a dedicated medical centrifuge using a validated protocol, so the plasma injected is properly concentrated.
  • Sterile, single-use tubes and needles are used throughout, and your sample never leaves the treatment room.
  • An honest assessment: if your concern would respond better to another treatment, or to a combination, Dr Kris will tell you before you book a course.

The Kriniko Difference

Regeneration, Not Reinvention

PRP doesn't change your features. It works with the skin you already have, improving its quality over a course of treatments so the change looks gradual and entirely natural.

Skin assessed before planning

Your skin is examined for texture, laxity, pigmentation and scarring, so the number of sessions you're advised to have reflects what your skin actually needs.

A course, properly completed

PRP works cumulatively. Dr Kris typically recommends a course of three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart, with maintenance discussed once results have settled.

Combined where it helps

PRP pairs well with microneedling, polynucleotides or skin-quality boosters. Where a combination gives a better result, Dr Kris will plan it into your treatment schedule.

Platelet-rich plasma injected into the face during a PRP facial in Cambridge

Full-Face PRP Facial Rejuvenation

Concentrated plasma is injected across the face in a fine pattern, delivering growth factors directly to the layer of skin where collagen is made. It's a good option if your skin looks tired, dull or textured but you don't want filler or muscle-relaxing injections.

Improvement is gradual. Most patients notice brighter, smoother skin within a few weeks, with firmness continuing to build over two to three months as new collagen forms. The neck, décolletage and backs of the hands can be treated in the same way.

Under-Eye PRP Cambridge

The skin beneath the eyes is the thinnest on the face, and it's often where tiredness shows first. PRP can improve the quality of that skin, softening fine crepey lines and helping dark circles that come from thin, translucent skin rather than pigment or shadow.

Because plasma is your own tissue, it's a considered option for an area where fillers carry more risk of puffiness or lumps. Dr Kris will assess whether your under-eye concern is likely to respond to PRP, and say so plainly if it isn't.

PRP With Microneedling

Sometimes called a vampire facial, this combines medical microneedling with your own platelet-rich plasma. The micro-channels created by microneedling allow plasma to be applied across the skin surface while also triggering the skin's own repair response.

It's a strong choice for acne scarring, enlarged pores and general textural irregularity across the whole face. Expect redness similar to mild sunburn for around 24 to 48 hours, with skin looking progressively smoother over the following weeks.

Your Treatment Journey

What to expect, step by step

Knowing what happens before, during and after your PRP appointment helps you feel at ease and set realistic expectations.

01

Medical consultation

Dr Kris reviews your medical history, medication and blood-related conditions, assesses your skin and confirms whether PRP is suitable. You'll receive a clear plan, including how many sessions to expect.

02

Blood draw and treatment

A small blood sample is taken from your arm and spun in a centrifuge for several minutes. Numbing cream is applied while it separates, then the plasma is injected or applied. Allow around 60 minutes.

03

Aftercare & review

Redness, mild swelling and occasional small bruises are normal for a day or two. Avoid make-up, exercise and heat for 24 hours. Your progress is reviewed before each subsequent session.

PRP Skin Rejuvenation Results

Healthier Skin, Built Gradually

PRP results build rather than appear. Most patients see early brightness within two to three weeks, with collagen-led improvements continuing for around three months after a completed course.

Brighter complexion

Dull, tired skin looks fresher and more even.

Smoother texture

Fine lines and rough patches soften over time.

Firmer feel

Improved elasticity as new collagen forms.

Refreshed under-eyes

Thin, crepey skin looks better supported.

Less visible scarring

Acne marks and texture gradually less obvious.

How does PRP for skin rejuvenation work?
Platelet-rich plasma is made from a small sample of your own blood, usually around 10 to 20ml taken from the arm. The sample is placed in a centrifuge and spun at a set speed, which separates the blood into layers and concentrates the platelets in a portion of plasma. Platelets are the cells your body relies on for healing, and they carry growth factors including PDGF, TGF-beta, VEGF and EGF. When this concentrated plasma is injected into the dermis, those growth factors signal fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin, improve blood supply to the area and support the skin's natural repair cycle. Because the material is autologous, meaning it comes from your own body, there is no risk of allergy to the plasma itself. Some clinics use related preparations such as platelet-rich fibrin, which is spun differently to produce a slower release of growth factors. The change in skin quality is gradual rather than immediate, which is why PRP is usually given as a course. Suitability, including any blood conditions or medications that affect platelets, is always confirmed at your medical consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your PRP Questions, Answered

How many PRP sessions will I need?
Most patients are advised to have a course of three treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart, as PRP works cumulatively rather than in one session. Skin with significant sun damage or scarring may benefit from more. Once the course is complete, a maintenance session every six to twelve months helps hold your results, and Dr Kris will recommend a schedule at your consultation.
How long do PRP results last?
After a completed course, most patients see improvements lasting around twelve to eighteen months. PRP doesn't stop the ageing process, so skin quality gradually returns to its own trajectory, which is why maintenance treatments are usually recommended. Results also depend on your age, general health, sun exposure and skincare routine.
Does PRP hurt?
The blood draw feels like any routine blood test. Numbing cream is applied while your sample is being prepared, so the injections themselves are usually well tolerated, though you may feel brief stinging or pressure, particularly around the eyes and on the forehead. Most patients describe the treatment as uncomfortable rather than painful.
What is the downtime after PRP?
Expect redness and mild swelling for around 24 to 48 hours, and occasionally small bruises at injection points which can last a few days. Avoid make-up, exercise, saunas and alcohol for 24 hours, and use sun protection afterwards. Most patients return to work the same day or the next.
Is PRP safe?
PRP uses your own blood, so allergic reaction to the plasma itself is not a concern. The main risks relate to the injection process: bruising, swelling, tenderness and, rarely, infection. These are minimised by sterile technique and by having the procedure performed by a doctor. Dr Kris will explain all risks in full at your consultation.
What's the difference between PRP and polynucleotides?
Both are regenerative treatments that improve skin quality rather than adding volume. PRP is made from your own blood and delivers your own growth factors, while polynucleotides are purified DNA fragments, usually derived from salmon, that hydrate and support tissue repair. They can be used separately or as part of a wider plan, and Dr Kris will advise which is better suited to your skin and concerns.
How much does PRP cost in Cambridge?
Cost depends on the areas treated, whether PRP is combined with microneedling and how many sessions your skin needs. Because PRP is usually given as a course, Dr Kris will give you a full price for your recommended plan at consultation, before you commit to anything.
Who is not suitable for PRP?
PRP is only offered to adults aged 18 and over. It isn't suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for people with platelet or clotting disorders, certain blood conditions, active skin infection in the treatment area, or some cancers and autoimmune conditions. Blood-thinning medication and recent anti-inflammatory use may also affect suitability, so your full medical history is reviewed before any treatment is offered.
