A medical facial is only as good as the understanding of the skin behind it. Dr Kris brings more than 12 years of clinical experience to Kriniko Medical Aesthetics, so every facial is chosen to support healthy skin function rather than simply pamper the surface.

  • A medical understanding of skin structure, the skin barrier and conditions such as acne, congestion and dehydration, applied to every facial plan.
  • Member of the International Association for Applied Corneotherapy, an approach that focuses on protecting and restoring the skin barrier.
  • Your facial is matched to your skin type and concerns, and can be combined with advanced skin treatments as part of a longer-term plan.

How do medical facials work?
A medical facial combines clinical-grade technologies in a single treatment to improve skin health rather than just the surface. HydroDiamond hydradermabrasion exfoliates, deep-cleanses and extracts impurities while flooding the skin with hydration. DermeDrop® and DermeBoost® then infuse hyaluronic acid and targeted active ingredients into freshly prepared skin, where they can be absorbed more effectively. Oxygen infusion revitalises and calms the complexion, and LED light therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to support skin renewal and reduce inflammation. Each facial is finished with SPF to protect the skin. Depending on your skin, additional steps such as salicylic acid infusion for acne, mesotherapy infusion, dermaplaning or NanoPeeling with exosomes can be added for more advanced rejuvenation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Medical Facial Questions, Answered

What is a medical facial?
A medical facial is an advanced skin treatment that uses clinical-grade technology and active ingredients to improve skin health, rather than simply cleansing and pampering the surface. At Kriniko Medical Aesthetics in Cambridge, medical facials combine HydroDiamond Facial Technology, DermeDrop® and DermeBoost® infusion, Oxygen Infusion and LED Light Therapy to deliver visible improvements in hydration, clarity, texture and radiance.
How is a medical facial different from a salon facial?
A salon facial focuses mainly on relaxation and surface cleansing. A medical facial is carried out in a doctor-led clinic and uses advanced technologies to exfoliate, extract and infuse targeted actives such as hyaluronic acid, salicylic acid or exosomes into the skin. Each facial is tailored to your skin concerns for measurable results.
Which medical facial is right for me?
It depends on your skin and your goals. The Refresh Facial suits dry and dehydrated skin, the Boardroom-Ready Facial gives an instant glow before events, the Acne Pro-Facial targets breakouts and congestion, the Restore Facial improves texture and early signs of ageing, the Rejuvenate Facial is our most advanced anti-ageing facial with exosomes, and the Platinum Glow Facial combines dermaplaning with HydroDiamond for maximum radiance. We can recommend the best option at your appointment.
Is there any downtime after a medical facial?
Medical facials have minimal downtime. Some patients notice mild redness for a few hours, but most return to work or their normal routine straight away. We recommend wearing SPF daily and avoiding harsh exfoliants for a few days after treatment.
How often should I have a medical facial?
For ongoing skin health, most patients benefit from a facial every 4–6 weeks, which works with the skin's natural renewal cycle. A single facial is ideal before an event, while a regular course gives the best long-term results for acne, dehydration and signs of ageing.
Can medical facials help with acne?
Yes. The Acne Pro-Facial is designed specifically for acne-prone, oily and congested skin. Salicylic acid infusion, gentle exfoliation, oxygen therapy and LED light therapy help unclog pores, calm inflammation and reduce breakouts. For persistent or severe acne, we may recommend combining facials with other treatments.
Does dermaplaning make hair grow back thicker?
No. Dermaplaning removes fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) and dead skin cells, but it does not change the thickness, colour or growth rate of the hair. The hair grows back as soft and fine as before.
Who is not suitable for a medical facial?
Some facials or ingredients may not be suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have active infection, cold sores or broken skin in the treatment area, are sunburnt, or have recently used isotretinoin (Roaccutane) or strong retinoids. Your skin and medical history are reviewed before treatment so we can choose a safe, suitable facial for you.
