Meet Dr Kris: Your Cambridge Sculptra Doctor

BSc (Hons) MBBS PgDip MSc RCPathME MRSB MIoL MIHSCM PVRA

Dr Kris brings more than 12 years of clinical experience and a detailed knowledge of facial anatomy to every Sculptra treatment at Kriniko Medical Aesthetics. Because Sculptra works with your own biology rather than adding instant volume, it rewards careful planning: the right vial count, the right dilution and the right depth, mapped across a full course.

  • Advanced aesthetic training completed in London, with ongoing development in collagen-stimulating injectables, facial anatomy and complication management.
  • A medical understanding of the fat pads, ligaments and vessels beneath the skin, so Sculptra is placed in the correct plane for even, predictable collagen growth.
  • Every patient has a face-to-face medical consultation with Dr Kris before treatment, and a doctor is present throughout your appointment.

Why Patients Choose This Treatment

The Benefits of Sculptra

  • Stimulates your own collagenPoly-L-lactic acid prompts your skin to rebuild its own collagen rather than simply filling a space.
  • Gradual, undetectable changeResults build over three to six months, so friends notice you look well rather than treated.
  • Treats the whole face, not one lineIdeal for overall volume loss across the temples, cheeks, mid-face and lower face.
  • Improves firmness and skin qualityNew collagen thickens thin, crepey skin as well as restoring lost support.
  • Long-lasting resultsAfter a completed course, results can last up to two years before a top-up is considered.
Why Cambridge Trusts Dr Kris

Medical Precision Behind Every Vial

12+ years of clinical practice, with both medical and surgical qualifications
  • Sculptra is not reversible, so planning matters. Dr Kris builds your result across a course, starting conservatively and reassessing before each session.
  • Correct preparation and technique: vials are properly reconstituted and diluted, and product is placed in the deep subcutaneous plane where collagen formation is even and nodules are far less likely.
  • Medical safety: Dr Kris is trained to recognise and manage complications, and every treatment follows a full medical assessment and written aftercare plan.

The Kriniko Difference

Rebuilt, Never Overfilled

Sculptra at its best is invisible. Dr Kris uses it to restore the scaffolding your face has lost, so skin sits where it used to, rather than adding weight that can make a face look heavier than it should.

Collagen first, volume second

Treatment is mapped across the areas where support has been lost, so the result reads as firmer, better-quality skin rather than added bulk.

A planned course, not a one-off

Most patients need two or three sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Dr Kris is honest about the vials and timeline your result will realistically take.

Complete skin strategy

Sculptra rebuilds structure. Where skin quality, hydration or expression lines also need attention, it can be combined with polynucleotides, Profhilo or anti-wrinkle injections.

Full-Face Collagen Restoration

The most popular way to use Sculptra. Poly-L-lactic acid is distributed across the upper, mid and lower face to rebuild collagen where support has been lost, restoring the underlying framework instead of targeting single lines.

Because the change happens gradually as your own collagen forms, there is no sudden difference for others to notice. Most patients complete a course of two or three sessions, then simply look well-rested for months afterwards.

Cheek & Temple Restoration

Hollow temples and flattened cheeks are two of the earliest signs of facial volume loss, and both can make an otherwise healthy face look tired and drawn. Sculptra rebuilds collagen in these areas to restore soft, natural fullness.

Because support is regenerated in the mid-face, nose-to-mouth lines often soften as a secondary benefit, without filler being placed directly into the fold. Dr Kris treats both sides in proportion so your face stays balanced as the result develops.

Jawline & Lower Face

As collagen declines, the lower face loses its crispness: the jawline softens, early jowling appears and marionette lines deepen. Sculptra can rebuild support along the pre-jowl area and lower cheek to firm the whole region.

This is a gradual, structural approach rather than instant contouring, which suits patients who want a fresher lower face without a heavier, overfilled look. Dr Kris can also advise on treating the neck and décolletage where skin quality is a concern.

Your Treatment Journey

What to expect, step by step

Knowing how a Sculptra course unfolds, and how gradually results appear, helps you feel at ease and judge your progress fairly.

01

Medical consultation

Dr Kris reviews your medical history, assesses where volume and firmness have been lost and explains how many vials and sessions your goals are likely to need, with time to consider it before going ahead.

02

Your Sculptra sessions

Vials are reconstituted in advance and placed in the deep layers of the face using a fine needle or cannula, with numbing cream for comfort. Each session takes around 30 to 45 minutes, typically four to six weeks apart.

03

Massage, aftercare & review

You'll massage the treated areas at home for the first few days to keep the product evenly distributed. Mild swelling settles quickly, and your results are reviewed as collagen builds over the following months.

Sculptra Results

Collagen You Grow Yourself

Sculptra doesn't work overnight. Changes usually start to show from around six weeks, build over three to six months as new collagen forms, and can last up to two years once a full course is complete.

Restored volume

Temples, cheeks and mid-face regain natural fullness.

Firmer skin

New collagen thickens thin, crepey skin.

Softer folds

Nose-to-mouth and marionette lines ease as support returns.

Defined lower face

A firmer jawline and less early jowling.

Long-lasting

Results can hold for up to two years after a course.

How does Sculptra work?
Sculptra is made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible, biodegradable material that has been used in medicine for decades in products such as dissolvable sutures. Unlike hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, which occupy space and give an instant result, Sculptra acts as a collagen stimulator. Once injected into the deep layers of the skin, the PLLA particles trigger a controlled healing response, and over the following weeks your fibroblasts lay down new type I collagen around them. The particles themselves are gradually broken down by the body and cleared, leaving your own new collagen behind. This is why the initial fullness seen on the day, which comes from the sterile water the product is mixed with, settles within a day or two, and why the real result appears gradually across three to six months. It is also why Sculptra is used for overall volume loss and skin firmness rather than for lips or fine detail work. Suitability is always confirmed at your medical consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Sculptra Questions, Answered

How long does Sculptra take to work?
Sculptra works gradually. Any fullness you see immediately after treatment comes from the liquid the product is mixed with and settles within a day or two. Most patients begin to notice a change from around six weeks, with the result continuing to build over three to six months as new collagen forms. Patience is part of the treatment, which is why Dr Kris reviews you between sessions rather than judging the result on the day.
How many Sculptra sessions will I need?
Most people need a course of two or three sessions, spaced about four to six weeks apart. The number of vials used at each session depends on how much volume has been lost and the areas being treated. Dr Kris will give you a clear, realistic plan at consultation rather than committing you to an open-ended course.
How long does Sculptra last?
Because the result comes from your own collagen, it is long lasting. After a completed course, many patients enjoy their result for up to two years before considering a maintenance session. Ageing continues in the background, so a single top-up session every 18 to 24 months is a common way to hold the result.
Does Sculptra hurt?
Most patients find treatment very manageable. Numbing cream is applied beforehand and the product itself contains local anaesthetic. You may feel pressure or a brief sting as each area is treated, and some tenderness and mild swelling afterwards is normal for a day or two.
What is the difference between Sculptra and dermal fillers?
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers add volume instantly by occupying space, and they can be dissolved if needed. Sculptra is a collagen stimulator: it prompts your body to build its own collagen over several months, so the change is gradual and longer lasting, but it cannot be reversed. Fillers suit precise shaping such as lips, chin projection and jawline definition, while Sculptra suits generalised volume loss and skin firmness. Dr Kris will advise which approach, or which combination, fits your goals.
What are the side effects of Sculptra?
Common side effects include swelling, redness, tenderness, bruising and small lumps at the injection sites, which usually settle within a few days. The main treatment-specific risk is small nodules or papules forming under the skin weeks or months later. This risk is reduced by correct dilution, deep placement and following the aftercare massage, and Dr Kris will explain how any such issue would be managed. All risks are discussed in full before treatment.
Can Sculptra be dissolved or reversed?
No. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, Sculptra cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase, because the end result is your own collagen. This is precisely why a conservative, well-planned approach matters: Dr Kris builds the result across a course, assessing your response before each session rather than over-treating at the start. The product itself is fully biodegradable and is broken down by the body over time.
Do I need to massage my face after Sculptra?
Yes. Aftercare massage helps keep the product evenly distributed while collagen begins to form and reduces the chance of nodules. Dr Kris will show you exactly how, where and for how long to massage before you leave the clinic, along with written aftercare instructions.
Who is not suitable for Sculptra?
Sculptra is only offered to adults aged 18 and over. It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, where there is an active skin infection or inflammation in the area, for people with a known allergy to poly-L-lactic acid, or for those with a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring. Certain autoimmune conditions and medications may also affect suitability. Sculptra is not used in the lips or immediately around the eyes. Your full medical history is reviewed before any treatment is offered.
How much does Sculptra cost in Cambridge?
Sculptra is priced per vial, and the total depends on how many vials and sessions your plan requires. Dr Kris will confirm the full cost of your recommended course in writing at consultation, so there are no surprises once treatment begins.
